A Simple Polish Party Classic
Some salads just look like a celebration — fresh, colorful, and beautifully arranged on a platter. This Iceberg Lettuce Salad with Feta is one of them.
I made this salad for my husband’s birthday, and it disappeared almost instantly. It’s simple, effective, and very popular in Poland — the kind of salad you’ll often see at family gatherings, name days, and holiday tables.
It’s also healthy, satisfying, and incredibly flexible. You can adjust it depending on what you have in your fridge, but the base stays the same: crunchy lettuce, fresh vegetables, and salty, creamy cheese on top.
And the best part? No mixing needed — just layer everything beautifully and pour the dressing right before serving.

Here is a short video on how I make Iceberg Lettuce Salad with Feta:
Instructions
1. Prepare the Base
Tear the iceberg lettuce into bite-sized pieces using your hands.
Place it on a large serving platter — this will be your base.
2. Layer the Vegetables
Arrange all the vegetables on top of the lettuce, instead of mixing:
- bell peppers
- cucumber
- cherry tomatoes
- red onion
This way the salad looks fresh, colorful, and beautifully presented.
3. Add the Cheese
Sprinkle crumbled or cubed feta over the top.
Its salty, creamy texture perfectly balances the fresh vegetables. If you want a twist, try smoked cheese or a stronger blue cheese version.
4. Make the Dressing
Combine all dressing ingredients in a small jar.
Close the lid and shake well until smooth and emulsified.
5. Serve
Drizzle the dressing over the salad just before serving.
No need to toss — let everyone scoop from the platter, getting a bit of everything.
Tips from My Kitchen
- Use a large platter — presentation makes a big difference here
- Mix different colors of peppers for a more festive look
- Add garlic to the dressing if you like a stronger flavor
- Add dressing at the last minute to keep everything crisp
This is one of those salads that proves something very Polish: you don’t need complicated ingredients to create something beautiful and delicious.
Just fresh vegetables, good cheese, and a simple dressing.
Iceberg Lettuce Salad with Feta is perfect for celebration, or just a regular day that needs a little color.
